The BFS process is versatile and the machine can manufacture a wide variety of containers of different sizes and shapes, ranging from 0.2 milliliters to 13 liters.
The containers can be moulded in a wide variety of shapes and can be either rigid or very flexible as to make them squeezable.
Inserts on the mould allow embossing on the vials or bottles if needed, like scales, logos or batch numbers.
The top of the containers can have different shapes depending on the application and can be threaded to adjust a connector or a cap.
Standard classification for the size of containers is:
– Small Volume: from 0,2ml to 20ml
– Large Volume: from 50ml to 1l or higher volumes
– Syringes: from 0,5ml to 20ml
SMALL VOLUME PARENTERALS
Blow Fill Seal technology allows production of small volume parenterals in the form of vials or ampoules, with filling volumes from 0.2ml to 20ml.
The applications are extremely varied: injectable solutions, ophtalmologic preparations, ear drops, preparations for aerosol therapy, respules, disinfectants, antibiotics, solutions for reconstitution, vaccines.
Vials can be singulated or come in strips of 5 or 10.
BFS is suitable for production of single use vials, or multidose ampoules.
The tip of the container can be threaded to adjust a cap, it can be designed for an easy twist off or it can have a standard luer port (luer slip, luer lock, luer vent).
LARGE VOLUME PARENTERALS
Filling of Large Volumes on the Blow Fill Seal technology is usually designed for bottles between 50ml to 1000ml.
Most common applications are Intravenous solutions (IV), solutions for irrigation, disinfectants, solutions for dyalisis, oral dosage, antibiotics, contact lenses liquid.
Containers can be self-collapsible, thus making them similar to plastic bags, and can be embossed with a scale which is particularly useful for IV solutions.
Although BFS bottles are already aseptically sealed, a secondary capping is customary in several Western countries: for this reason, Euro Cap or Inso Cap can be added to the bottle. A special Eco Head design can avoid the need for secondary capping.
PREFILLED SYRINGES
lastic prefilled syringes produced on SYFPAC® machines can have volumes from 0.5ml to 20ml.
The smallest volumes can have a special design for a single use, squeezable syringe with incorporated needle. As for usual syringe design, inserts (plunger, plunger rod) are safely added and a standard luer port is customary (luer lock or luer slip).
Vaccines, biologicals, anticoagulants, subcutaneous or intramuscular injectables can all be safely filled with the BFS technology.
